A Custom 3-Day Istanbul Itinerary, Built Around You
Search for a 3-day Istanbul itinerary and you will find the same script repeated across dozens of travel sites: Topkapi Palace on day one, a Bosphorus cruise on day three, the Grand Bazaar wedged in wherever it fits. It reads well, but the order and pace may need adjusting for travelers following it. A couple who wants two slow days and one busier one needs a different order than a family whose pace shifts between midmorning and midafternoon, and a solo woman planning her own three days may want a guide she already feels comfortable with before she lands.
We are a small, licensed team based in Istanbul, and we have planned private, multi-day itineraries since 2016. This post walks through how we build a custom 3-day Istanbul itinerary around the interests, pace, and travel party in front of us, drawing on our private walking tours, Taste of Istanbul food tours, neighborhood visits, and private Bosphorus yacht experiences.

Planning Three Days Around Your Dates and Interests
A fixed 3-day plan can be a useful starting point, but your dates and interests should shape the final itinerary. Topkapi Palace closes on Tuesdays, and the Grand Bazaar closes on Sundays, so a plan written without a calendar in hand can leave you at a locked gate before the morning is half over. A custom itinerary starts with your travel dates, so we check scheduled closures and prayer times when planning your visits. The guide can also respond to unexpected changes during your stay.
How We Build Each Day Around You
A custom 3-day Istanbul itinerary is built from the same real experiences as our sample itineraries, arranged in the order and combination that suits you. A history-focused couple might spend more time at Topkapi Palace and Hagia Sophia, with the Blue Mosque and Grand Bazaar arranged around opening days, prayer times, and how long they want to stay at each stop. Our Taste of Istanbul food tour can bring a different perspective to another day, with a Turkish breakfast, baklava, Turkish coffee, and a ferry crossing to Kadikoy for a local meal.
The order follows your travel dates. For example, when a stay includes a Tuesday, we plan Topkapi Palace for another day and consider food or neighborhood visits for that date.
A family that wants a lighter pace might spread those same stops across all three days, folding the walk through Fener’s and Balat’s backstreets into a slower afternoon rather than keeping it as its own separate day.
Travelers who want a calm finish can end the trip on a private Bosphorus yacht instead of the Fener and Balat walk; both are options on our sample private 3-day Istanbul itinerary. When available, we arrange the same licensed guide for all three days, so you have continuity throughout your stay.
We are a group of 7 Australians and today we spent the day with Furkan on a food tour. He was delightfully entertaining and knowledgeable, and the food was delicious and abundant. Furkan is a generous and informative host, we would recommend him and his team without hesitation.

A Relaxed Pace, Set by You
We discuss how much you would like to see each day and allow time to appreciate the visits that matter most to you. Each day typically runs four to six hours with a start time agreed around your preferences, opening hours, and prayer times, so mornings can begin early for guests who want to make the most of the cooler hours or later for a group still catching up on sleep after a long flight. If a courtyard turns out to be more interesting than expected, or a group simply wants to sit with tea longer than planned, the guide discusses adjustments to the remaining visits with you, taking opening hours and any prearranged experiences into account.
A Considered Pace, With Clear Inclusions
We do not recommend an eight-hour tour that tries to fit every major sight into one day. It often means rushing from one place to another, with little time to appreciate what you came to see. Across three days, we can give your preferred visits more room, with different tour experiences planned around museum opening hours, prayer times, and the pace that suits you.
We do not compete on the lowest price. Our private tours include experienced, licensed guidance and admission to the museum visits agreed in your itinerary, so you will not be asked to pay those entrance fees on the day. Your proposal sets out the price and inclusions before you book.
We make shopping stops only at your request. There are no obligatory visits to carpet, jewelry, or tile shops, and no pressure to purchase. If shopping is part of your interests, we can include it thoughtfully, with time to browse and guidance when you want it.
Guides Who Are Comfortable With Families
Many of the travelers on our 3-day itineraries are families, and our guides are used to pacing a day around a ten-year-old as easily as around two adults on a honeymoon. If a child’s attention runs out at the Topkapi Palace, the guide reads that and heads for a calm spot to sit down rather than pushing through the planned stop list. For a deeper look at planning a family trip, see our guide to a private family tour of Istanbul.
A Female Guide for Solo Women, on Request
A solo woman spending three days in Istanbul can request a female guide for the whole visit at no extra cost, subject to availability. Derya Artan, our Licensed Tour Guide and Bazaar Expert, guides most of our female-guided and women-only private tours, and, where available, having the same guide across all three days offers the continuity of a familiar guide throughout the visit. For more on traveling to Istanbul as a woman, see our guide to women travelers in Istanbul.
What Is Already Arranged for You
Your custom private tour includes a licensed guide each touring day and admission to the museum visits agreed in your itinerary. When you include our Taste of Istanbul food tour, tastings and nonalcoholic beverages are included.
We arrange entrance tickets for Topkapi Palace and Hagia Sophia in advance wherever possible. Mandatory security checks still apply, and entry waits at these sites, and the Blue Mosque vary with conditions that day.
A tram journey or public ferry crossing can be part of the route, and we can arrange private transportation where appropriate or on request. Your proposal will specify transportation, any private Bosphorus yacht experience, and other arrangements, along with the price and inclusions, before you book.
Two Sample Itineraries to Help You Choose
If you would like a starting point, our sample private 3-day Istanbul itinerary illustrates two combinations of experiences: the Old City with a food tour and a walk through Fener and Balat, or the Old City with a two-continents walk, closing with a private Bosphorus yacht experience. We can still adjust either one once you share your dates and group. The full range of two- and three-day options is on our multi-day private guided Istanbul tours page, and you can start a custom itinerary with either example or the interests you share with us.
Share Your Plans, and We Will Build Your Three Days
Send us your travel dates, who is coming, and what draws you most to Istanbul, and we will build a 3-day itinerary around it, with a licensed guide and a pace suited to your group. A female guide can be requested in advance, subject to availability.
Review the two sample itineraries on our private 3-day Istanbul itinerary page, browse the full range on our multi-day private guided Istanbul tours page, or contact us directly with your dates.
Private Notes on Your Custom 3-Day Istanbul Itinerary
Can I customize my 3-day Istanbul itinerary?
Yes. We plan each day around your interests, preferred pace, and travel dates, taking opening hours, prayer times, travel distances, and availability into account.
Is the same guide with me for all three days?
If your dates allow, yes. The same licensed guide stays with your group across all three days rather than handing you off to someone new each morning.
Can you arrange a female guide for a solo woman traveler?
Yes. A female guide is available on request at no extra cost, subject to availability, for the whole three days or for part of the trip.
Are your guides comfortable with children and families?
Yes. Many of our 3-day itineraries are built for families, and our guides adjust the pace of each stop around the ages and energy of the group.
What is included in a custom 3-day Istanbul tour?
A licensed private guide each touring day and admission to the museum visits agreed in your itinerary. Food tours include tastings and nonalcoholic beverages. Transportation, private yacht experiences, and any additional arrangements are specified in your proposal before booking.
How many hours does each day take?
Most touring days last around four to six hours. We agree on the start time around your preferences, the planned visits, opening hours, and prayer times.
Do I have to choose between the Old City, the food tour, and Fener and Balat, or can we combine them differently?
We can combine them around your interests, allowing for opening hours, travel time, and a comfortable pace. Some travelers spread fewer stops across all three days, and others prefer each day built around one theme, such as history, food, or neighborhood walking.
How far in advance should I book a custom 3-day itinerary?
Contact us as soon as your travel dates are confirmed. We are a small team with limited guide availability, especially during busier travel months. Early inquiries give us more opportunity to arrange the same guide for three consecutive days; for a closer travel date, ask us about current availability.
Is three days enough time in Istanbul?
For the Old City, a food tour across two continents, and a neighborhood walk through Fener and Balat at a comfortable pace, yes. For a full comparison of one, two, three, and more days in Istanbul, see our guide to how many days to spend in Istanbul.
What if I only want some of the days customized?
That works too. You can keep one of our sample itinerary days as it is and customize the rest, or adjust the order and pace without changing which sites you see.
