Where Your Istanbul Day Begins: The Private Day, Arranged in Advance

For a luxury traveler, a private Istanbul experience should offer more than a guide and a list of monuments. It should make the city easier to enjoy. Your hotel location, arrival time, site schedules, transportation, entrance tickets, and the pace of your group should already be considered before the day begins.

We plan our private Istanbul tours around your interests. You travel with a licensed local guide dedicated only to your group, entrance fees for the sites named in your proposal are included, and tickets are arranged in advance wherever possible. When private transportation is needed, we can organize it as part of the itinerary rather than leaving you to arrange it on the day.

The result is a more personal way to experience Istanbul. You still see its great monuments, but the day is shaped around how you prefer to travel rather than around a standard tour schedule.

Your hotel changes the way your day begins

Where you stay matters in Istanbul.

Guests staying in the Old City can begin almost immediately. The Four Seasons at Sultanahmet, for example, is close to Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, and the Hippodrome.

Karakoy also works very well for guests who prefer a waterfront setting while remaining close to the historic center. The Peninsula Istanbul sits across the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn from the Old City, with the Galata Bridge and tram connections nearby.

When guests stay in these areas, we normally meet them at their hotel and begin on foot. There is little reason to add a private vehicle when walking is often the most practical way to experience the historic center.

Hotels in other parts of the city create a different arrangement. Ciragan Palace and the Four Seasons at the Bosphorus offer beautiful waterfront settings in Besiktas, while The Ritz-Carlton, Istanbul offers Bosphorus views from its location in Elmadag. Reaching the Old City from these hotels normally requires transportation.

For these stays, we can arrange a private Mercedes Vito, Sprinter, or S-Class and driver in advance. The collection time and transportation are included in your proposal, so there is nothing to organize on the morning of the tour.

Neither location is better. The right choice depends on the kind of Istanbul stay you want. We have no commercial arrangement with the hotels mentioned here, and we receive no commission or preferred rate from them.

A private tour should feel genuinely private

Private means your guide is working only with you.

We do not combine unrelated guests, and there is no minimum group size. The itinerary is discussed before you arrive, but it remains flexible enough to respond to your interests once you are together.

Every guide we work with holds the professional national tour guide license required for guiding inside Turkey's major museums and historical sites.

For guests staying several days, we prefer to keep the same guide throughout the Istanbul itinerary whenever possible. This continuity makes a noticeable difference. By the second day, your guide already understands your pace, your interests, and which parts of the city you would like to explore more deeply.

Furkan and Derya personally guide many of our multi-day guests. A female tour guide can also be requested in Istanbul and Cappadocia, subject to availability.

Good planning protects your time

Luxury travel is not about rushing through more places. It is about using your time well.

Istanbul's major monuments do not all follow the same schedule. Topkapi Palace closes on Tuesdays. Mosques pause visitor access around prayer times. Friday requires additional consideration, and ticketing procedures can change.

We arrange the order of the day around these details before you arrive.

Entrance fees for the sites listed as included in your proposal are already part of your tour price. Tickets are arranged in advance wherever possible, which can reduce or avoid ticket-purchase lines.

Advance tickets do not remove mandatory security checks. Every visitor still passes through security, and wait times vary by season, visitor numbers, cruise schedules, public holidays, and local conditions.

That distinction is important. We prefer to explain exactly what can and cannot be arranged rather than promise something Istanbul's monuments do not offer.

How much should you try to see in one day?

For most first-time visitors, around five to six hours works very well for the Old City.

A private itinerary may include Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Hippodrome, and the Grand Bazaar. The exact order depends on the day and current conditions.

We do not believe that making the tour longer automatically makes it better. After several hours inside major historical sites, most guests appreciate having time left for lunch, their hotel, an evening reservation, or another experience.

Within those five to six hours, the pace remains yours. If a particular site interests you, you can spend longer there. If another matters less, the day can move on.

Topkapi Palace deserves time

Topkapi Palace is not a single monumental building. It is a large complex of courtyards, gardens, pavilions, ceremonial spaces, and collections developed over centuries.

The value of visiting with a knowledgeable guide is understanding how these spaces connect and how palace life actually worked.

The main Topkapi Palace ticket includes the Harem section, so one ticket covers both the palace and the Harem. The Harem's private apartments, tiled interiors, and courtyards are among the areas many guests remember most. The Imperial Treasury is another important part of the visit.

Because Topkapi closes on Tuesdays, we take your travel dates into account before deciding which day should be devoted to the Old City.

Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque require current local knowledge

Hagia Sophia's visitor arrangements changed in January 2024. Visitors currently enter through a separate ticketed entrance and see the building from the upper gallery, while the ground floor remains a prayer space.

The upper gallery also provides access to surviving Byzantine mosaics and a different view across the interior.

The Blue Mosque remains an active place of worship and pauses tourist visits around daily prayers. A wait of around ten to fifteen minutes is common, although conditions vary.

We plan around these pauses rather than treating them as unexpected interruptions.

We also explain the dress requirements and entry procedure before you arrive, so the experience remains comfortable and straightforward.

What should a second private day in Istanbul look like?

A second day should not simply repeat the first.

After visiting the historic center, many of our guests choose our private Istanbul food tour. It offers a different way to understand the city through Karakoy, local food stops, the public ferry across the Bosphorus, and Kadikoy on the Asian side.

Food tastings and non-alcoholic beverages are included.

Other guests prefer to continue exploring neighborhoods, markets, mosques, and areas beyond the main Old City monuments.

For many first-time visitors, combining the Old City experience with a food and neighborhood day creates a much more complete picture of Istanbul.

Guests staying longer can explore the city at a slower pace with the same guide. You can read more about our multi-day private Istanbul itineraries and our guide to how many days to spend in Istanbul.

"After our Emerald Azzurra cruise, we spent three days exploring Istanbul on private, guided tours with Furkan. We also enjoyed a private sunset tour of the Bosphorus, an unforgettable way to experience the city from the water. The quality of service, attention to detail, and communication both before and during our trip were truly exceptional. My husband and I agreed that Furkan was the best tour guide we have ever worked with."

Arriving on a luxury cruise?

Galataport is in Karakoy, close to the historic center, which makes it a convenient starting point for a private Istanbul experience.

We welcome guests arriving with Silversea, Seabourn, Regent Seven Seas, Explora Journeys, Emerald Azzurra, the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, and other ships calling at Istanbul.

Your private shore excursion is planned around the ship's actual arrival and departure schedule rather than around a fixed group-tour timetable.

If your ship stays overnight, we can consider the arrival afternoon, evening, and following day together and create a more relaxed itinerary.

Private experiences beyond the daytime tour

Some guests prefer to arrange only their guided sightseeing with us. Others ask us to coordinate more of their time in Istanbul.

Depending on availability, we can arrange a private sunset yacht tour on the Bosphorus, historic hammam reservations, a Mevlevi ceremony, cooking experiences, Ebru marbling with a master artisan, private transfers, and private transportation.

Our team confirms these arrangements with you in advance.

You can see additional options on our Istanbul concierge and private experiences page.

Shopping should be your decision

We do not receive commissions or kickbacks from shops, and we do not operate sister stores.

There are no hidden or commission-driven shopping stops in our itineraries.

If you would like to shop for carpets, Iznik ceramics, calligraphy, leather, or another particular item, tell us. Your guide can include suitable shopping time and assist with local guidance and translation.

If shopping is not part of your interests, it does not need to be part of your day.

You can also read our guide to luxury shopping in Istanbul and the Grand Bazaar.

What should be arranged before you arrive?

A well-planned private trip should leave very little administration for you once you are in Istanbul.

Before your tour, we confirm your itinerary, guide, meeting point, included entrance fees, advance tickets where available, and transportation when required.

If additional private experiences have been requested, those arrangements are confirmed as well.

You know what has been organized before you travel, while your guide still has enough flexibility to adjust the pace of the day once you are together.
